A TRIBUTE TO RICHARD HOWARD at BRYANT PARK

Richard Howard is the author of fourteen books of poetry, including Without Saying (2008), a finalist for the National Book Award in poetry, Talking Cures (2002), Trappings(1999), and Untitled Subjects (1969), as well as the critical study Alone with America and the critical prefaces of the anthology PreferencesInner Voices: Selected Poems, 1963-2003 and Paper Trail: Selected Prose, 1965-2003 were compiled and released jointly by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in 2004. In 2004, he received the PSA’s Frost Medal for distinguished lifetime achievement in American poetry.

Timothy Donnelly is the author of Twenty-seven Props for a Production of Eine Lebenszeit, and The Cloud Corporation. He is an assistant professor and director of undergraduate creative writing at Columbia University and the poetry editor for the Boston Review.

Edward Hirsch is the author of many books, including  he Living Fire: New and Selected Poems (2010), Special Orders (2008), Lay Back the Darkness (2003), and Wild Gratitude (1986), which won the National Book Critics Circle Award With Eavan Boland, he wrote the celebrated The Making of the Poem, and he has also edited many anthologies, including The Writer’s World (Trinity Press). He is currently the president of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.

Julie Sheehan is a 2008 recipient of a Whiting Writers’ Award and author of three poetry collections: Bar Book: Poems & Otherwise, out from W.W. Norton in 2010, Orient Point, which won the 2005 Barnard Women Poets Prize, andThaw, winner of the Poets Out Loud prize from Fordham University. She teaches in and directs the MFA program in creative writing at Stony Brook Southampton.
